Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated; “Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said; ‘When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of Jannah (Paradise) are opened and the gates of Jahannam (Hell) are closed, and the shayateen (devils) are chained up.”

The gates of Jannah (Paradise) are opened in this month because a great deal of righteous deeds are performed, and as an encouragement for those who seek Allah’s reward. While the gates of Jahannam (Hell) are closed because only a few sins are committed by the believers. The shayateen (devils) will be chained that they may not have the influence on the believers by whispering to them and misguiding them, that they might ordinarily have during the other months of the year.

Allah has prescribed fasting and made it obligatory on all nations. He has said;

“O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous”

[Noble Quran 2:183]

If fasting were not a great act of worship, and the reward thereof were not so great Allah would not have prescribed it on all nations.

Of the virtues of fasting is that it is a means for atonement of sins. It is narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that;

“The Prophet, (peace be upon him), said; “Allah has said; ‘All the deeds of Adam’s children (all mankind) they do for themselves, except fasting which belongs to Me and I will reward for it. Fasting is a shield (against the Hell and against the committing of sins). If one of you happens to be fasting he should avoid sexual relations with his wife and should avoid quarrelling. Should someone fight or quarrel with him, let him say, ‘I am fasting’. By Him in Whose Hand is my soul (Allah), the smell of the mouth of the one who is fasting is better in the sight of Allah than musk (perfume).”

[from the collection of sayings of the Prophet by Imam Bukhari]

It is a shield because it safeguards the believer from vain talk and wrong doing and thereby protects him from the Jahannam (Hell).

Of all the good deeds, Allah has favored fasting to be greatly rewarded by Him and distinguished it with prestige, if it is observed with the pure intention of pleasing Him alone.

From other sayings of the Prophet, (peace be upon him) we know that:

Fasting is so highly regarded for a believer that he would have two occasions of joy, one at the time of breaking his fast, [to enjoy the bounties of Allah, because he has been favored with Allah's mercy to observe fasting while many others have been deprived of this great blessing], and the second would be when he meets his Lord [and enjoys the abundant reward for having observed fasting].

Also, that fasting intercedes with Allah on behalf other believer on the Day of Judgment.

Bedouin

A bedouin came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) and after accepting Islam expressed his wish to accompany him in the expedition. The Prophet (Peace be upon him) asked some of his companions to
take care of him and settle his needs. When the Muslims captured one of the forts and won a large
booty, the man had taken out a herd of cattle for grazing. The spoils were distributed among the
combatants apportioning the Bedouin also of his share. When he was given his part, he took it to the
Prophet (Peace be upon him) and asked, “What is this?” The Prophet (Peace be upon him) explained
that it was his share of the booty of war, but he said, “I didn’t come to you for it.” Then pointing to his
throat he continued, “I followed you hoping that I would be hit by an arrow, entitling me of Paradise.”
The Prophet (Peace be upon him) replied, “If you desire it so, God will do likewise.”
Then, in a subsequent battle at Khaybar the Bedouin was among those killed in the encounter. The
Prophet (Peace be upon him) asked, “Is it the same man?” When the companions replied in the
affirmative, the Prophet (Peace be upon him) remarked, “He was true to God and God made his wish
come true.” The Prophet (Peace be upon him) shrouded his corpse with his own mantle and recited
the funeral service for him. Thereafter, he said, “O Allah, thy servant had come to migrate in Thy way
and was killed for Thy sake. I bear witness to it.”

Abu ‘Umar, has been martyred

•July 20, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Inna Lillaahi wa Inna Ilayhi Raaji’oon.

AllahuAkbar, AllahuAkbar, AllahuAkbar.

Our great Mujaahid Commander of Lebanon, Abu ‘Umar al-Maqdisi (a.k.a., Shehada Jawhar), has been martyred by the Apostate forces in ‘Ain el-Hilweh. The Apostate forces ambushed him and others this Sunday morning and he died because of the wounds sustained from the clash. May Allah’s wide mercy encompass him in His forgiveness and accept him amongst the Shuhada’.

Also, our brother – who was a close associate of Abu ‘Umar – Waleed Salloom, was martyred in the clash. May Allah accept him amongst the Shuhada’.

More information on this incident can be found here.

Who is Abu ‘Umar?

He was a steadfast Mujaahid, a pious worshiper, and a knowledgeable and useful asset for the Mujaahideen. He was loved by his people and hated greatly by his enemies. He was a weapons dealer in Lebanon and benefited our Mujaahideen brethren greatly from it. He later fled to ‘Iraaq after the call of the Shaykh ash-Shaheed (inshaa’Allaah), Abu Mus’ab al-Zarqawi – may Allah accept him amongst the Shuhada’ – for the purpose of making the word of Allah supreme and making the word of the disbelievers low and humiliated. He was an army of his own; a very agile and fit body, strong and commanding personality that had great military experience from beforehand; his knowledge of bomb making, weapons, guerrilla warfare strategies and weaknesses of the armies of the superpowers quickly made him the Ameer of military training and a respected Commander.

Abu ‘Umar said,

Victory is not required from us. What is required is to be ready for a jihad in the name of Allah, ready to reinstate Islam’s rule and Muslim caliphate. It is normal, if the army shoots at us, we will shoot back at them — normal.

When Abu ‘Umar was asked if he was a “terrorist”, he replied,

Yes, a terrorist. What’s the problem with that? If I want to terrorize the enemies of Allah, what’s the problem with that?

And when he was asked if he received death sentences, he replied,

I got several death sentences and was also sentenced to life imprisonment. There’s nothing to it. What’s the problem? They can pile on as many sentences as they like. This is a sign of honor for me.

Mashaa’Allaah, this was the strength of this man’s ‘Aqeedah, Yaqeen and Imaan in Allah Ta’aalaa. He was of those who feared none except his Lord – and we ask Allah for that to be so.

You can watch his translated interview with al-Arabiya here (or on youtube here and here).

And you can watch his interview with the New York Times here and read their report about him here.

Below are pictures of him taken today after his martyrdom. May Allah accept him.

Please do not forget him in your sincere Du’aa.

Allah has blessed him with what he was searching for.

A man who lived in obedience to Allah,

Searching for the opportunity to meet Allah as a Shaheed.

For years, he rushed across the sands to wage Jihaad,

And circled the enemies of Allah.

Allah accepted his effort,

And has joined him with the martyrs,

His wildest dreams have just come true.

O’ Where are the men of this Ummah in search of similar dreams?

Or are our dreams limited to the enjoyment of this life?
